Obituary

Tupelo - Virgle A. Maxey, 86, died Friday, July 17, 2009 at Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born November 13, 1922 in Lee County to Nona L. and Sallie Bell Barnett Maxey. He was a WW II United States Navy Veteran serving on the USS Okanogan and Johnson Island in the South Pacific. He was employed with Pepsi Cola Bottling and Better Brands for 45 years. After his retirement he enjoyed daily God's gift of life, nature and watching his dogs, birds and squirrels.Graveside Services will be 2 P.M. Saturday at Lee Memorial Park with Bro. John Ligon officiating. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.Survivors include two daughters, Gail Smith (Shelby) of Saltillo and Judi Wheeler (Phil) of Tupelo; one half-sister, Nona Dale Jordan (Don) of West Monroe, LA; five grandchildren, Andrea Wheeler Schipke (Shad) of Bay Springs, Michelle Burton, Amy Cantrell, Ryen Smith and Kelly Smith all of Saltillo; Six great-grandchildren and one nephew, Russell A. Maxey of Tupelo.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years Pauline Maxey who died October 14, 2004 and his brother, Melvin Maxey.Visitation will be from 12:30 - service time Saturday.
