Obituary

SHANNON - Tom Buskirk, 79, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Riverplace Nursing Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1932, in the Pontocola community to Victor and Bertha Mae Buskirk. He graduated from Shannon High School and attended Mississippi State University. He served his county in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He had a strong work ethic and worked for over 32 years at Barbers Milk Company and running the daily operations of his cattle farm. He was a founding member of Carnation Baptist Church in Okolona. He loved spending time with his family.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Park with Dr. Roy McHenry officiating. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanya McCord (Larry) of Chesterville and Tara Leech (Phil) of Smithville; one son, Thomas Buskirk (Sherrie) of Shannon; two sisters, Gladys Anderson and Jean Pannell (Dulane), all of Okolona; one brother, Danny Buskirk (Jackie) of Wren; seven grandchildren, Waylon Buskirk, Josie Buskirk, Caleb Ballard, Coleman Leech, Caleb Leech, Jolee Leech and Jake Johns (Kendra); one great-grandchild, Kylan Johns; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Vic Pannell, Danny Buskirk Jr., Rod Herndon, Dr. Ron Herndon, Lee Herndon and Jacky Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Houston Minniece, Devan Hanna and Tommy Moore.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. today.
