Auburn CommunityShirley J. Reed, 75 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. She was born November 16, 1939 in Saltillo to Samuel Thomas and Ella Bradley Archibald. She attended school in Saltillo, Mantachie, and graduated from Mooreville High School in 1959, where she was elected Miss MHS in 1959, and Best All Around in 1958 and 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Reed, in 1960. She was a member of Auburn Baptist Church, but as a Music Minister's wife, she was currently attending Verona First Baptist Church and throughout the years attended several churches in Lee and Prentiss Counties. She began her banking career with First Bank, currently Deposit Guaranty, then worked many years and retired from The Peoples Bank (Renasant) in 2002 after 29 years. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She loved her family and saw to it that she fixed a meal for her husband, children, and grandchildren on their birthdays.
Services will be 2 pm Saturday at Auburn Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Henry and Bro. Larry Dunlap officiating and music provided by Sherry Gregory and Billie McFerrin. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul W. Reed of Auburn; two sons, Sammy (Marilyn) Reed of Auburn and Greg (Darlene) Reed of Mooreville; her sister, Jewell Morgan of Auburn; six grandsons, Bryan (Mandy) Reed, Brent Reed, Ian (Beth Lindsey) Reed, Stephen Reed, Rob Herring and Peyton Reed; one great-grandson, Greyson Reed; a niece who was more like her daughter, Shelia Morgan of Birmingham; a brother-in-law, George Graves of Saltillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Stephen Wren Reed; her sister, Sue Graves and a brother-in-law, Phillip Morgan.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Ladies 3 Sunday School Class at Auburn Baptist Church and the members of the Fidelas Sunday School Class at Verona First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Auburn Baptist Church, Verona First Baptist Church or East Heights Baptist Church.
