Richard George Campeau, age 92 of Tupelo, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Rick was born in Alliance, Ohio on April 15, 1931, to Edward Clarence Campeau Sr and Gertrude Helen Hines.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Geraldine Logan Campeau of Tupelo; seven children, Ric Campeau (Deb) of Summerville, SC, Mike Campeau (Robin) of Fredericksburg, VA, Celeste Couturier Baker (Steve) of Chico, CA, Pat Campeau (Binky) of Saltillo, MS, Denis Campeau (Robin) of Anniston, AL, Andrea Stiles of Meridianville, AL, and Chris Campeau (Lorelei) of Summerville, SC; one brother, Raymond Campeau; two sisters, Jeanne Greenwald and Susie Packey; 28 grandchildren, Sam (Ryan), Zach (Marta), Michelle (Todd), Jennifer, Matthew (Brooke), Caleb (Gabi), Stephen (Taryn), Kristoffer (Erica), Nicholas (Lindsay), Bonnie, Shane (Heather), Bryce, Darcie, Harrison (Courtney), Jacob (Dani), Rebekah (Ethan), Elliot (Jolia), Caroline, Oliver, Calvin, Henry, Kendall, Nicole (BJ), Logan, Caitlyn, Jordan, Jackson, and Lily; 22 great grandchildren, Carolina, Paula, Beatrice, Gracie, Eliana, Giana, Liam, Lela, Jasper, Jackson, Kordelia, Quinn, Lachlan, Felicity, Cameron, Celine, Bentley, Logan, Annalise, Colby, Mili, Ellis, -so far- and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ed Campeau and Tom Campeau; one sister Mary Lou Mayer; two sons-in-law, Curt Stiles and Mark Couturier and granddaughters Shivaun and Cherie Couturier.
After graduating from Alliance High School, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 29 years before retiring as a CMSgt, having also served 22 years in the Civil Service. Military and career tours of duty included Lackland AFB San Antonio TX, Keesler AFB MS, Brookley Field Mobile AL, Keflavik Iceland, Shaw AFB Sumter SC, Hialeah FL, Randolph AFB San Antonio TX, Kindley AFB Bermuda, Can Tho Vietnam, Warner Robins AFB GA, Bangkok Thailand, Columbus AFB MS, Eielson AFB AK, and Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
He was a dedicated father, husband, and grandparent. He volunteered his time with NMMC, Habitat for Humanity, and service to others. He embraced his Catholic faith and was an active member of St. James Catholic Church. He lived his life dedicated to his wife Gerry and his entire family. Dad was an example to us all of enduring love and service to others and his country. Although he is dearly missed he has left a blueprint for all of us to follow.
Visitation starts at 11:00 followed by a funeral mass at noon on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo, MS. Reception to follow in Shelton Hall. Inurnment will be at Lee Memorial Park in Verona, MS at 4:00. Flowers can be sent to St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northeast Mississippi Habitat for Humanity.
