Tupelo - Nita Tennyson Hunt, 60, died Thursday at her residence. She was born January 21, 1949 in Pontotoc, MS to R.C. and Elaine Tennyson. She was raised in the Auburn Community before moving to Tupelo in 1968. As an active member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, Nita never missed an opportunity to share her love of Jesus to others through the many ministries she worked with. She was the happiest when she was volunteering in the bed babies' nursery at the church. For the past twenty years, she has watched numerous children grow up within her church. Harrisburg was her second home and family.Growing up playing varsity basketball at Mooreville High School, Nita loved watching the Tupelo Golden Wave Basketball teams but especially the Lady Waves. No game was too far away for her to go support the Waves and Lady Waves. Also, an avid Mississippi State Fan, Nita watched the bulldogs in every sport possible and attended many games. She loved to watch them play basketball, football, softball, and baseball. Her greatest joy in life was her two grandchildren; Joshua and Shelby. You could find her anytime on the sidelines of t-ball, baseball, soccer, basketball, flag football, and football games cheering for Joshua. She was especially proud to watch him play on the Alcoa High School state championship football team in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He was her "little man" and her pride and joy. She was so proud of her "little princess" Shelby and watched her for many years as she became an accomplished dancer. Their Gamma was at many dance recitals and dance competitions. They both share a love for being a cheerleader. Gamma loved seeing Shelby cheer for Alcoa High School and at four state championship games. She was so proud of her grandbabies, and they meant the world to her. The three of them share so many memories that will last a lifetime.Services will be Sunday, August 2 at 2:00pm at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forest Sheffield, Bro. Wayne Thorn, and Bro. Tim Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include her mother, Elaine Tennyson Oxford (Bobby) of Blue Springs; one daughter, Vikki Hunt Dillard of Alcoa, TN; one son, Stephen Lamar Hunt of Jackson, TN; one grandson, Joshua Stephen Dillard of Alcoa, TN; one granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Dillard of Alcoa, TN; one brother, Richard Lynn Tennyson (Pam) of Ackerman, MS; and one nephew, Rick Tennyson of Ackerman, MS. She leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she dearly loved. Nita was a family oriented person and enjoyed every moment she had with her family. She was preceded in death by her father, R.C. Tennyson. Pallbearers will be Rick Tennyson, Bill Tennyson, Heath Pruitt, Tim Pruitt, Johnny Tennyson, Scott Henderson, and Marcus Hester. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Morrison/Edwards Sunday School Class and the members of Harrisburg Baptist Church.Visitation will be Saturday, August 1 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home and Sunday at 1:00 until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made to the Harrisburg Baptist Church building fund.
