Tupelo - Nannie Ruth McCarter Rice, 97, died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the Union County Health & Rehab. She was born September 10, 1912 in Tupelo to Isaac and Sallie McCarter. She attended Sherman High School and was the oldest member of Macedonia Baptist Church, a member of the M & M Club and the Adult III Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and loved the outdoors.Services will be 2 PM Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church with Bro. Kerry Nelson, Bro. Tracy Quillian and Bro. Terry Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery.Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ruth Rice Cochran and husband, Joe of Belden and John William Rice and wife, Martha of Tupelo; one sister Polly McCarter Thompson of Tupelo; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Cass Rice; five brothers and two sisters.Pallbearers will be Hugh Cochran, Heith Cochran, Lee Franklin, Jay McCarter, Doug Horton and Jack Kirby.Visitation will be 5 - 9 Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church.
