Tupelo--Mattie Dale Farris, 73, died Thursayk Sept. 29, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 29, 1937, to Delvie L. (Dick) and Emma Lula Christian Davis. She was a lifelong resident of Lee County. She was a 1955 graduate of Mooreville High School where she was a member of the basketball team and selected Miss Mooreville by her classmates her senior year. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Auburn Baptist Church and was always there when the doors were open. She served as a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School worker, a nursery worker and numerous other activities. He favorite thing to do was spending time with her family and friends and cooking for them. She was an election poll worker and enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, listening to gospel music and sewing. Her family was her life and she spent countless hours supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities. Her spiritual gifts were prayer, service, and missions.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Auburn Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Henry and Bro. Jack Washington officiating. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Hubert Gene Farris Tupelo; five children, David Arlon Farris (Patty), Dalea Jean Conley (James), Malcolm Tulon Farris (Ramona), Daletha Dale Richey (Clay), all of Tupelo and Angela Dawn Bradley (Michael) of Columbus; two sisters, Linda Washington (Jack) of Tupelo and Paula Malone (Pete) of Mooreville; one brother, Ashely Farris, Courtney Farris, Savannah Richey, Chasity Richey, Farris Bradley; six great-grandchildren, Wayne Replogle, Andrew Curtis, Tanner Conley, Abbey Curtis, Aiden Curtis and Harper Grace Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Al David Davis and Joel Davis.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Conley, Josh Conley, Derrick Washington, Erick Washington, Mark Curtis, Allen Palmer and Gabby Figueroa. Honorary Pallbearers will be Patrick Rogers, Active and Inactive Deacons of Auburn Baptist Church and her Ladies 3 Sunday School Class.
Memorials may be made to Auburn Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church and 1 p.m. to service time Sunday.
