FurrsLola Mae Hallman Butler, 77, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. A Pontotoc County native and lifelong resident of the Furrs Community, she was born September 26, 1935 to George and Birdie Lee Hinton Hallman. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School where she was voted most beautiful. She married John David Butler Nov. 6, 1954 and together they operated a family grocery store. She later became the owner of Korna Kopia Gift Shop which she ran for many years. She also served her community as election commissioner. She was a dedicated member of Furrs Baptist Church, serving as church clerk for a number of years. Her family remembers her as a living example of a "Good Samaritan" who literally took in a sick and lonely stranger from New Zeeland who needed a helping hand. This stranger and his family soon became lifelong friends. Her life revolved around her family to whom she was the central hub, opening her home at a moments notice and serving many meals to any who needed a place to stay or a bite to eat.
Services will be 2 pm Saturday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Dowdy and Rev. Joe Epting officiating. Jackie Parker will offer a eulogy. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
