Mooreville-Leon Aldridge, 79, died Thursday, September 18, 2014 at his residence after an extended illness. A resident of Mooreville, he was a member of Andrews Chapel Methodist Church. He was born Feb.2, 1935 in Detroit, Alabama to the late Emory Ward Aldridge and Allie Mae Aldridge. He married Lena Belle Sanderson of Houston, MS on Dec. 21, 1957. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the US Army as well as in the US Marine Corp. He worked for Central Foundry Company in Holt, Alabama. He enjoyed reading, gardening and sports. He was an Alabama football fan. His favorite pastime was spending time with his many family and friends who were a blessing to him.
Services will be 2 pm Saturday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sammy Washburn and Rev. Abe Zimmerman officiating. Entombment will follow in Lee Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Belle Sanderson Aldridge of Mooreville; five children, Sandra Wilson (Robert), Calvin Aldridge (Elyse), Lamar Aldridge (Monica), Lena Valerie Miranda Aldridge, Ramona Vaughn (Greg); brothers, Leroy Aldridge (Evelyn) and Boyd Wayne Aldridge; one sister, Geneva Kimble (Melvin); eight grandchildren, Nicole Childers (Brandon), Brittany Aldridge, Morgan Sohn (Josh), Ben Aldridge, Reagan Aldridge, Lauren Wilson, Katie Aldridge and Joe Aldridge; and a sister-in-law, Louise Aldridge.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Jewel E. Aldridge, Bueal E. Aldridge (Pearlie Mae), Doyle Aldridge, Nellovea Brown (Jim), Emory Ward Aldridge Jr. (Syble) and his twin brother, Leo Aldridge (Shirley).
Pallbearers will be Boyd Aldridge, Danny Aldridge, Mark Pumphrey, Robert Wilson, Greg Vaughan, Andrew Aldridge, Randy Pumphrey, and Gary Pumphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Aldridge Richard Aldridge, Jackie Aldridge, Jerry Aldridge, David Aldridge, Leroy Aldridge Jr., Ricky Davis, Tim Aldridge, Bill Davis and Allen Brown.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Andrews Chapel Methodist Church in care of Margie Hussey, 1412A Highway 371, Mooreville MS 38857.
