Shannon - Lemuel D. "Lem" Sheffield, 80, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born August 29, 1929 in Okolona to Trenton and Lura Sheffield. He graduated from Mooreville High School and Itawamba Junior College. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He owned and operated the Shannon Cookhouse, Sheffield's Grocery and hauled sand and gravel. He enjoyed going to church and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Shannon. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Shannon and the Tupelo Hog Rosters. He loved working in his garden and spending time and cooking for his family and friends.Services with Military Honors will be 2 PM Monday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Cayson officiating. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery.Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Katherine Sheffield of Shannon; one son, Mike Sheffield (Angie) of Brewer; one daughter Melanie Sheffield; three grandsons, Steven Sheffield (Stacy), Paul Sheffield and Brent Sheffield (Shelly); two great-grandsons, Cody Sheffield and Payden Sheffield; three great-granddaughters, Anna Sheffield, Emily Sheffield and Briona Sheffield; one sister Marjorie Grissom (Jerry) of Saltillo; two brothers, Jimmy Sheffield (Pat) of Mooreville and Jerry Sheffield (Cindy) of Atlanta, GA; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bill Sheffield.Pallbearers will be Woody Sheffield, Greg Sheffield, Billy Sheffield, Steven Sheffield and Brent Sheffield. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of his Sunday School Class.Visitation will be 5 - 8 Sunday.
