John Samuel Harris II, 92 of Tupelo peacefully passed away on April 3, 2025, with family by his side. John was born January 4, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late John Samuel & Rebecca Morrison Harris. He graduated from Memphis State University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Sciences. John had a successful career in pharmaceutical sales for over 40 years, in which he won many awards.
John was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and actively involved in other ministries including a local food pantry, the Salvation Army and the Gideons where he placed many Bibles in hotel rooms for travelers.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Emilie Harris Lambeth. He is survived by his three sons with his first wife June (who passed in 1988) – John III (Mindy) of Vancouver, WA; James of Tupelo; and Jeff (Rhonda) of Flagstaff, AZ. He is also survived by his two stepdaughters with his second wife Donis (who passed in 2007) – Melissa Douglass (Rick) of Memphis, TN; and Becky Gillespie of Tupelo. He is survived by nine grandchildren – Clarke Harris, Taylor Dann, Natalie Gregio, Jessica Harris, Paula Aldridge, Donis Maxwell, John Harris IV, Michael Dozier, and Bryson Douglass. Finally, he is survived by five great grandchildren and his companion for many years, Mrs. Jo Reed.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Tupelo with Rev. Rick Douglass officiating. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm at the church. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Faith Mausoleum at Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted in the arrangements.
John will be honored by six of his grandchildren who will serve as his pallbearers; Clark Harris, Jessica Harris, John Harris, Taylor Dann, Donis Maxwell, & Paula Aldridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made the to The Gideons or to a charity of the donor's choice.
