Obituary

TupeloJohn T. Capps, 85, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Altus, OK on January 4, 1929, the son of Roy Lee and Emma Agee Capps. On July 21,1940 he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. After graduating as Valedictorian of his senior class, in Humphreys, Oklahoma, he began serving in missionary assignments both in domestic and foreign locations . John was married to Martha Birdsong on September 1, 1951 in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1954, John and Martha Capps were invited to the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead in New York and after graduating they enjoyed teaching the Bible in Italy. John also served briefly in Alabama as traveling minister for Jehovah's Witnesses during the 1950's. One of John's favorite things was to share what he had learned from the Bible with many people from around the world. The Capps made their home in the Palmetto community for over 45 years. He owned and operated DeCa Auto Sound for 39 years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Martha Birdsong Capps of Tupelo; two children: Carol Capps Heytens (William) of Marietta, MS and Lee Capps (Missy) of Tupelo; a sister Delia Lee Capps Frank (Logan) of Dallas, TX; 11 grandchildren: Amanda Capps Robinson (Adrian), Hans Heytens (Pam), Seth Heytens (Laura), Ethan Heytens, Peter Heytens, Rachel Heytens Felkins (David), Jessica, Luke, Sam, Anna, Susan; and one great grandson, Eli Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.C. Capps and a sister, Oneta Capps Ramsey.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday at the Verona Cemetery with Brother David Chrestman officiating. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
