VeronaJoan Lamb Sanders, 79, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Rosewood Residence after an extended illness. She was born in the Auburn Community on October 18, 1934 to Joe and Hazel Houston Lamb. She and her husband Loyd Sanders owned and operated the Sanders Handy Pak in Verona and later owned Tupelo Recycling. Joan also earned her nursing degree and worked as an LPN at Anderson Hospital in Meridian and at Tupelo Manor. She was an avid reader of mysteries, enjoyed baseball, and taking care of her beloved pets, especially her cat, Cotton.
Services will be 2:30 pm Saturday at the Lee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Clyde Mize officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her two sons, Joey Sanders (Regina) of Willis, TX and Tim Sanders (Kim) of Baldwyn; five grandchildren, Josh Sanders (Dana) of Guntown, Allen Sanders of Austin, TX, Mandi Cofer (Shea) of Nashville, TN, Merri Underwood (Jason) of Tupelo and, Matthew Sanders of Houston, TX; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Loyd Sanders; a daughter, Jana Dell Sanders, a son, Tommy Murphy and a great-grandson, Knox Cofer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Bethay, Levell Sharp and Dale Chunn.
