Saltillo - Jimmy Martin, 58, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at North MS Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born January 11, 1955 in Ruleville. He was the previous owner of Short Stop Grocery in Mooreville for over 25 years and currently employed at Hunters Haven. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, especially turkey hunting, working outside and camping. He was a classic car enthusiast and a member of the Possum Trot Kruzers, Heart of Dixie Firebird Assc. and North Mississippi Cruisers car clubs. He loved spending time with his family, especially his 4 month old grandson, Dax.
Services will be 11 AM Friday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Sullins Martin of Saltillo; his daughter, Jennie Martin Zarta (Tommy) of Memphis, TN; his grandson, Daxton James "Dax" Zarta of Memphis, TN; one sister, Shirley Simmons (Wayne) of Senatobia; his extended family and very close friends, Allen Whitman and Tommy Malone.
He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Martin, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Malone, Mike Malone, Ted Wood, Allen Whitman, Billy Sheffield and Scotty Parker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the college fund of his grandson, Dax Zarta at Trustmark Bank.
