Verona - Jimmy Jones died Monday, February 3, 2014, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born October 22, 1947 in Pontotoc County to J.T. "Red' and Laney Jones. He was a 1965 graduate of Tupelo High School and earned his Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance from Itawamba Junior College in 1980. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force. He worked for Hickory Springs Metal Plant for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of Bissell Baptist Church where he was an active deacon. He enjoyed NASCAR, reading, golf, photography and loving on his grandbabies. He had a servant's heart and volunteered as a blood donor giving nearly 60 gallons of blood.
Services will be 3:30 PM Thursday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Niles Jones of Verona; two daughters, Stacey E. Jones Newcomb (David) of Tremont and Kasey L. Jones Ennis (Steve) of Chesterville; three grandchildren, Noah Ennis, Abbigail Ennis and MacKenzie Newcomb; three sisters, Patricia Jones Pervis of Huntsville, AL, Teresa Simmons (Bobby) of Mooreville and Kai Jones Thomas (James) of Marietta; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Owen T. Jones and Tim Jones.
Pallbearers will be Matt Jones, Matt Wilburn, Jeff Roberts, Calvin Mangum, Patrick Jones and Chad Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bissell Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class.
