Verona - Mrs. Jeannette McKinney, 84, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Countrywood Plantation in Mantachie after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Lee County having grown up in the Shannon community and later moving to Verona. She had been an active member, Sunday School teacher, and supporter of many activities of the First Baptist Church of Shannon. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University and taught at Shannon Elementary for a short period of time. As a former member of the Tupelo Country Club, she was an avid golf enthusiast and player. Other activities included traveling, both domestically and abroad, sewing, and painting She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Booker McKinney on November 25, 2005; her parents, Leroy E. and Emma Mae Crum; a grandson, Paul McKinney; and two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, William Elvin McKinney and wife (Faye) and Quinton Dodson. Memorial Services wereat 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Shannon with Bro. David Langerfeld officiating and Bro. John Box assisting. Inurnment wasin Lee Memorial's Chapel of Faith Mausoleum. Visitation wasfrom 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Lee Memorial Funeral Homewas in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Johnson and Stuart of Tupelo; one son, Charles Gary McKinney and Nancy of Weirsdale, FL; one brother-in-law, Billy McKinney and Katie of Davie, FL; one sister-in-law, Juanita Dodson of Mantachie; 12 grandchildren, Shelley Farmer and Chase, Kinney Ferris and Michael, Jonathan McKinney, David McKinney and Elizabeth, Joseph McKinney, Emma McKinney, Benjamin McKinney, Luke McKinney, Mark McKinney, Eva McKinney, Heath Johnson, Kirk Johnson and one great grandson, Charlie Farmer; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youth Group of The First Baptist Church of Shannon.
