New AlbanyJanet Ruth Phillips, 69, died Thursday, February 22, 2013 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis after a lengthy illness. She was born January 30, 1944 in Benton, Illinois to Arthur and Ethel McGuire. She was a member of Belden Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery and with the children in Awana. She enjoyed drawing, sewing and crocheting and was known for crocheting blankets for the newborns at church. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Services will be 11 AM Monday at Belden Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Holcomb and Bro. Gary Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Corinth National Cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Harry David Phillips of New Albany; two daughters, Angie Groshans of Leister, NC and Tonya Dacus (James) of Bartlett, TN; two sons, George Paul Kistner, III of Aiken, SC and Dewayne Phillips (Laurie) of New Albany; two stepdaughters, Connie Wilkerson (John) of Germantown, TN and Angie Sansone (Derek) of Collierville, TN; three sisters, Mary Redlund of North Augusta, SC, Patricia Winkler of Oshkosh, WI and Tammy Kelly of Augusta, GA; three brothers, Daniel McGuire of Athens, Greece, Gary McGuire and John McGuire, both of Augusta, GA; sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Harris Phillips; two sisters, Geraldine Wagneer and Kathleen Morgan; three brothers, Arthur Ray McGuire, Jr;., George McGuire and Russell McGuire.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center.
Visitation will be 5-8 Sunday at the funeral home.
