Brandon - James L. Herndon, 82, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his home after a brief illness. He was born July 31, 1927 in Pontotoc County to Clarence and Verna Herndon. He was a longtime resident of Verona until moving to Brandon two years ago to be near his family. He was a US Army Veteran and retired from Tombigbee Electric Power Assn. after 43 years of service. He was a member of Verona First Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family but especially his great-granddaughter, Harlee.Services will be 11 AM Friday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Herndon and Dr. David Hamilton officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Faith Mausoleum in Lee Memorial Park.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Agnes West Herndon of Brandon; one daughter, Judy (Paul) Johnson of Brandon; two grandchildren, Vance (Bethany) Johnson and Deanne (Kris) New all of Brandon; one great-granddaughter Harlee Johnson; one brother Dan (Jean) Herndon of Shannon; one sister Nita Dawe (Guy) Patterson of Blue Springs; one son-in-law Bobby Hall of Tupelo.He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Janet Hall.Pallbearers will be Bobby Hall, Kris New, Phil Dawe, Reed Dawe, Jake Dawe, Ronnie Herndon and Harold West. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Employee's of Tombigbee Electric Power.Visitation will be 5 - 8 Thursday.
