Weynona Poore
AMORY - Weynona Mae Stone Poore, 84, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, in Tupelo. Born May 30, 1926, in Alabama, she was the daughter of G.G. and Edith Hiden Stone. Weynona was a graduate of Sulligent High School. She married James Oliver Poore in 1945, who survives. Upon moving to Amory, she worked in the garment industry at Glenn Manufacturing, and she also worked as a teacher's aide at Amory Elementary School before her retirement. She was a member of Hatley Primitive Baptist Church. Weynona was the best cook, and she enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Hatley Cemetery in Hatley with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Oliver Poore of Amory; her daughter, Norma Cother (John E.) of Tupelo; brothers, Herol Stone of Birmingham and Jimmy Stone of Vernon Ala.; sisters, Marie Weeks of Vernon Ala. and Mary Griffin of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jason Cother and Justin Cother; and two great-grandchildren, Waylon and Weston Cother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marcelle Peeler; and a brother, Gilbert Stone.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, Mississippi Chapter, NE Branch, P.O. Box 540, Amory, MS 38821, or to Hatley Primitive Baptist Church, 60036 Fowlkes Rd, Amory MS 38821.

Jimmie Denley
BRUCE - Jimmie Lee Denley, 71, died April 9, 2011, at her home. She was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Bruce. She was a homemaker.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Benefield officiating. Burial will be in Memory Memorial Garden. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Denley of Pontotoc; her son, Mike Denley (Angie) of Sarepta; three sisters, Helen Vanlandingham of Pittsboro, Glenda Godfrey of Pelahatchie and Genell Stewart of Minden, La.; one brother, Larry Blackwater of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren, Morgan Dillard of Pontotoc and Grayson Denley of Sarepta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Denley; her parents, Luther Frank and Ora Lee Turner Blackwelder; her sisters, Mary Lou Logan, Jackie Countiss and Frankie Hare; and her brother, Vernon Blackwelder.
Pallbearers will be Allen Blackwelder, Winnon Clark, Dan Countiss, Jeff Miller, Tracy McCammon and Charlie Vanlandingham.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

'Bill' Edwards
SMITHVILLE - William Delbert "Bill" Edwards, 89, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at his home in Smithville. He was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Poteau, Okla., to George Wheeler Edwards and Ruth Roark Edwards. He lived most of his life in Monroe County. He was a Veteran of World War II. He worked l8 years in planning and estimating for the Columbus Air Force Base. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a past deacon at First Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist of Aberdeen. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Todd Bowen and Bro. Tim McMillen officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Roberts and husband, Ernie of Cleveland, Va.; two sons, William "Bill" Edwards and wife, Wanda of Aberdeen and Bobby Edwards and wife, Melanie of Smithville; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Alice Viars Edwards; one brother, George A. Edwards; and a sister, Ruth Rayburn Taylor.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Edwards, Todd Roberts, Robert Edwards, Trinity Edwards, C.B. Peden and Joe Peden.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Aberdeen.

IUKA - Benjamin Joe Smith, 60, died Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Lillie Bullock
NEW ALBANY - Lillie Mae Roaten Bullock, 94, died April 9, 2011, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was born Mar. 27, 1917, in Union County to William Council and Laura Lee Hall Roaten. She was a member of Keownville Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Irwin B. Schwabe Co.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Keownville Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Keownville Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one son, Danny Bullock (Pam) of Glen; two sisters, Dorothy Metts (Billy) and Velma Jarrett (Charlie), both of Myrtle; three brothers, Willard Roaten (Martha) of Blue Springs, Robert Roaten (Betty) of Mabelvale, Ark. and Gene Roaten (Sue) of New Albany; and one granddaughter, Bailey Bullock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Escar Ray Bullock; one son, Billy Ray Bullock; one sister, Bessie Smithey; six brothers, James Roaten, Troy Roaten, Randle Roaten, Milton Roaten, Lee Roy Roaten and Boyce Roaten.
The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to service today.

Frankie Ware
HOUSTON - Frankie Don Ware, 66, died Friday, April 8, 2011. He was born April 2, 1945, in Chickasaw County to Allen Ware and Clytee Morris Ware. He was the owner of Chickasaw Farm Services, Ware Milling and Ware Farms. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Houston with Bro. Daniel Herringa and Bro. Jonathan Childress officiating. Burial will be in Bethal Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lucius Ware; his two daughters, Dana Carol Ware of San Diego, Calif., and Angela Ware Mohr of Houston; one son, Richard Don Ware (Melissa) of Houston; four grandchildren, Ricky Don Ware (Courtney), Kaddy Carol Ware, David Chase Mohr and Franklin Rivers Mohr, all of Houston; one great-grandson, Kaleb Don Ware; his brother, James Ware (Madora) of Atlanta, Ga.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ware Gibson (Pete) of Vardaman and Barbara Ware Pearl (Charlie) of Plano, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Allen Ware, and his parents.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Dexton, Steve Pearson, Wayne Johnson, George Smith, Tim Nichols, Chris Kendall, Ralph Cain, James Estes, Jim D. Nelson, Larry Smith and Wayne Gregory.

Linda Cates
HATLEY - Linda Cates, 52, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at her home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory.
Max Akins
PONTOTOC - Max Whitworth Akins, 84, died April 9, 2011, at his home in Pontotoc. He was born March 25, 1927, to Charlie and Bertha Whitworth Akins. Max attended Pontotoc High School, graduating in 1945 as valedictorian and class president. After graduating, he entered the Army, serving in Japan during the occupation of the country. Later he graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He was married to Hattie Lee Carpenter on Sept. 8, 1949. He was vice-president of Carpenter and Son Ford-Mercury in Pontotoc. Max was very active in his church and community. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for many years. Max was also instrumental in establishing the Educational and Family Life Center, serving as the chairman of the building finance committee.
He was a also a charter member of the Pontotoc Country Club, past member of the Pontotoc Lions Club, Pontotoc City School Board and Pontotoc City School Endowment for Excellence Committee.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will be in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hattie Lee Carpenter Akins; one daughter, Debbie (Bob) Ray, of Pontotoc; three sons, Steve (Judy) Akins of Memphis, Kent (Teresa) Akins of Maitland, Fla. and Chris (Elizabeth) Akins of Petoskey, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Evan (Christy) Ray, Jordan (Lili) Ray, Whitney Ray, Lee (Molly) Akins, Patrick (Madeline) Akins, Andrew Akins, Sarah Akins, Macy Akins, Christopher Akins, Lachlan Akins, Declan Akins and Tristan Akins; two great-grandchildren, Harper Ray and Libby Akins; and special friends, who were caregivers, Diana Williams and Rhonda Lea.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Annice Wren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jimmy Wise Sunday School Class and past/present deacons of the First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and one hour prior to services Tuesday.

James Green
TUPELO - James Baxter Green, better known as J.B., died Sunday, April 10, 2011, in Hattiesburg. He was born July 12, 1922, in Booneville to John Baxter Green and Lalia DeStella Clark Green. He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, where he was trained as a pilot. He retired after 35 years of service with BellSouth in the North Mississippi District. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Benson (Dr. Chris) of Hattiesburg and Luann Purnell (George) of West Point; four grandchildren, Jay Benson of Memphis, Libby Benson of Hattiesburg, Susie Purnell Randall (Pate) of Alamo, Tenn. and Ray Purnell of West Point; one great-grandchild, George Pate Randall of Alamo, Tenn.; and one sister, Mavis Morgan of Booneville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Maxine Miller Green; six brothers, Oliver, Orville, Olen, Alvin, Gerald and Billy Joe Green; and two sisters, Ouida Jumper and Wanda Rose Green.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jerry Green, Mike Green, Johnny Green, Jimmy Green, Terry Joe Green, Donnie Green, Bill Morgan and Mitchell Barrett.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
