TupeloJames "Lightning" Betts, 86, died Saturday, December 1, 2012, at his residence in the Mt. Vernon Community. A native of Potts Camp, he was born October 25, 1926 to Roy and Carrie Lewis Betts. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 49, and the 40 and 8. He worked for Monts Tobacco Company for 47 years until his retirement. His wife, Pauline Lois Betts preceded him in death in1999. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and taking care of his dog, Lady, and his cat, Daisy. He attended the Mt. Vernon Senior Adult gatherings. His family remembers him as a smart and honest man and an avid story teller.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Lee Memorial Chapel with his brother, Bro. Jesse Betts officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include three children, Betty Betts, Larry Betts (Tina), and Tommy Betts; his sister, Ruby Patterson (Larry); three brothers, Jesse Betts (Martha), Herman Betts (Brenda) and Jack Betts; grandchildren, Hunt Betts, Brandy Tamplain (Brandon), Sherri Collins, Becky Robinson, Craig Robinson (Teri), Denise Randleman (David), his great-grandchildren, Arthur Tamplain, Abigail Tamplain, Grayson, Jack and Eason Robinson and Daniel, Seth, and Carrie Randleman.

Visitation will continue 10 a.m. to service time.
