VERONAGlenda Sue Murphree Criddle, 73, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit after an extended illness. She was born September 12, 1940, in Calvert City, Kentucky, to Louise O. Farned and Theodore O. "Treetop" Murphree . She married Jimmy M. Criddle on June 1, 1994 and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Verona. She graduated from Mississippi State College For Women with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962 and then attained a Master of Education degree at Mississippi State College in 1966. In 1984, she earned a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Mississippi. A longtime teacher, principal and educator, she served as principal of Joyner Elementary School, Rankin Elementary School and the Bissell Center. She also served in the executive office of the public school system until her retirement.
Services will be 2 pm Wednesday, April 30, at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Rooney, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Criddle of Verona; her brother, Dr. Fred A. Murphree (Vickey) of the Palmetto Community; two nephews, Allen Murphree (Charris) of Nettleton and Mark Murphree (Christen) of Mobile, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Visitation will be 12:30 until service time at the funeral home.
