Obituary

Evon C. Reed, 88, passed away on July 19, 2024 at Golden Age Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born April 24, 1936 to Aubrey and Inez Blaylock Collins in Rankin County. Her family moved to Okolona when she was 5 years old and she lived on her homeplace all but the last couple of years of her life. She graduated from Okolona High School and worked as a secretary in the Okolona Elementary School until her retirement. She married Billy Reed on June 13, 1954, a marriage of 62 years until his death in 2017. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Okolona. She was an accomplished seamstress, making her children clothes and even took on the task of making one of the girls wedding dress. She loved to cook, read and tend to her flowers. Her greatest love was her family and she took care of those she loved.

Services will be 3 PM Friday, August 2, 2024, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H.B. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

She is survived by her children, Kathie Thomason (Dennis) of Ooltewah, TN, Linda Boudreaux (Buddy) of Jeanerette, LA, Pattie Grossman (Tom) of Itta Bena and Dan Reed of Okolona; one sister, Mazelle Turner (Ray) of Okolona; her in-laws, Paul Reed (Betty), Coy Williams, JoAnn Reed, Brenda Collins and Varnell Reed;11 grandchildren, Charlie Thomason (Mandy), Adam Thomason (Lauren), Abby Shipley, Bonnie Chris (Alex), Reed Boudreaux (Liesl), Sandra Grossman (Cesar), Joe Grossman (Erica), Laura Grossman (Noah), Austin Reed (Tiffany), Aubrey Reed (Hali) and Meagen Ballard (Auston); 16 great-grandchildren, Reese, Isaac, Clara, Samantha, Avi, Jet, Emma, Brennan, Nora, Louis, Gracie, Annabeth, John Thomas, Elliot, Oliver and Lizzie;

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Reed and her brother, Roy Collins.

Visitation will be 2 - 3 Friday.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Okolona.
