Plantersville - Ernest Lee Coggin, Jr., 96, died Wednesday at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born July 2, 1917 in Nettleton to Ernest Lee, Coggin, Sr. and Lois Smith Coggin. He grew up in Nettleton and graduated from Nettleton High School in 1935. June, as he was referred to by his family and friends, worked in the family business, Coggin Grocery at an early age until his retirement in 1986, a job which brought him great pleasure. He was a World War II Veteran and after his military service he moved to Plantersville and lived there until 2007 when he moved to the Traceway Retirement Community. He was a member of Plantersville United Methodist Church and was blessed and honored to be able to open and close the church for over fifty years.

Services will be 11 AM Saturday at Plantersville United Methodist Church with past and current ministers officiating. Burial will be in Plantersville Memorial Cemetery. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his son, Larry Lee Coggin (Bettye); granddaughter, Laura Sappington (Larry); great-granddaughter, Kathryn Anne Sappington; sister, Nan Coggin Rogers and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilda Doris Rogers Coggin; two brothers, Hal Coggin and Sam Coggin.

Pallbearers will be Richard Coggin, Don Rogers, Mike Dickerson, Malcolm Rogers, Jamie Rogers and Charlie Mask. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Plantersville UMC Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Plantersville United Methodist church or to the Traceway Retirement Community. Visitation will be 5 - 7 Friday at the funeral home and 10 - 11 Saturday at the church.
