Obituary

Shannon - Elkin Pick Homan, 87, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at his residence at The Meadows in Fulton after a lengthy illness. He was born April 3, 1922 in the Pontocola Community to Andrew Pick and Velma Frances Mask Homan. He was a charter member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. He was a retired pipe fitter and a proud member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 102 in Knoxville, TN. His work allowed him to travel throughout the USA. He helped build missile sites in the west and many, many projects for the Tennessee Valley Authority. After retirement he enjoyed repairing small engines and working in his many shops. He was a veteran of World War II and a Sergeant in the 8th Army Air Force. He was in combat in Africa and England. He was a quiet man who will be fondly remembered for his dry sense of humor, gentle smile, soft touch, a playful spirit and will be missed by all who knew him.Services will be 2 PM Wednesday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Bryan and Rev. Dean Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park with Military Honors.Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Varnell McCaleb Homan of Fulton; three daughters, Linda (Percy) Shelton of Columbus, Janice (David) Boone of Shannon and Lisa (Dillard) Howell of Pontotoc; two sons, Larry Elkin (Laura) Homan of Fulton and Andrew Pick (Jessie) Homan of Clinton; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Holder (Joyce) Homan of Brewer; one sister-in-law, Jean Homan of Okolona and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James "Son" Homan, Farris Homan and Alfred Homan; three sisters, Clytee Ethridge, Nell Clark and Louise McFarling.Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Drew Homan, Clay Homan, Michael Homan, Matthew Homan, Grant Howell and nephew Homan McFarling.Visitation will be 5 PM - 8 PM Tuesday and 1 PM - 2 PM Wednesday.Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church 779 CR 506 Shannon, MS 38868
