Tupelo, MSElizabeth "Marge" Gustafson, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born in Phillips, Wisc. on February 18, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Krause Mayer. She was married to Arnold R. Gustafson for 72 years and together they owned and operated Gustafson's IGA Supermarket in their hometown of Park Falls. An avid reader of history, she also enjoyed traveling and outdoor sports such as skiing and snowmobiling. She loved working outside and family and neighbors will remember seeing her hauling brush to burn in winter. After moving to her daughter's home in Tupelo, she gradually grew to appreciate her warmer climate and pontoon rides on Lake Piomingo. She actively attended NorthStar Church in Saltillo until her health failed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, at NorthStar Church, Saltillo Campus with Pastors Terry Ledbetter and Jeff Flinn officiating. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. A celebration of her life will also be held in Phillips, WI later this summer.
She is survived by her two children, Carla J. Ciha (Barry) of Tupelo and Jeffrey A. Gustafson (Trish) of Butternut, WI; two brothers, Elmer Mayer (Rosie) and Arnie Mayer (Jean) all of Phillips, WI; five grandchildren, Michael Nicholas (Deborah) of Irmo, SC, Michele Hubert (Bruce) of Columbus, OH, Melissa Bowker (TJ) of Blue Springs,MS, Matt Gustafson of Oshkosh, WI, and Brittney Hren (Joshua) of Milwaukee, WI; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; and three sisters, June, Aggie and Adeline.
