VeronaEdward Stockton "Jack" McKinney, 80, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his home in Verona after an extended battle with cancer. Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and all around southern gentleman to all. He was born December 4, 1933 in the Mooreville Community and graduated from Tupelo High School. He then served our country during the Korean War in the US Air Force. Jack married his lifelong, beautiful bride of sixty-one years, Doris Mae Lipford McKinney of Verona.
Jack was the retired president of McKinney Construction where he worked for more than 60 years in road and bridge construction and hauling heavy equipment. After retirement, Jack loved his job at Lee Memorial Funeral Home, comforting families in their time of loss
Jack made a practice of serving the Lord through his service to others. He served on the Lee County Board of Supervisors for 12 years, on the Verona Board of Alderman for 12 years, and also on various other boards and committees. Jack served as an active deacon at the Verona Christian Church and lead the singing there for many years. He was a past member of Oak Valley Christian Church where he also served as song leader and deacon. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and was always ready to share his talent with friends, family, churches, and the community. He enjoyed antique cars, horses, and spending time with his family. He was a good man and good to all. He will be missed by many.
Services will be 4:30 pm Monday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Marks and Bishop Jack Ezell officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Jack and Doris have two children, Connie McKinney Garrison and Joe McKinney (Missy), all of Verona. He always loved his family and showed them every day. He will be truly missed by his grandsons, Chip Garrison, Chace Garrison, Macon McKinney and Cole McKinney. Jack also had a great love for his four precious great-grandchildren, Gabriel Garrison, Tanner Garrison, John Asher Garrison, and Maddyn McKinney, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, J.K. (Buck) Lipford, mother-in-law, Louise Lipford; his father, Niles McKinney; his mother Jewel Davenport McKinney Adams; a sister, Tolsie Clayton; and a brother, Buddy McKinney
Pallbearers will be Dennis Cobb, Jimmy Sheffield, Burt Washington, Bobby Williams, Billy Pannell, and Buzzy Cullum
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale Massey, Fain Pannell, Bobby Goff, Billy Fred Wheeler, and Paul Beckner
Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral Home and 3:30-4:30 Monday.
