VeronaDuane Erwin Wakeland, 77, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born January 12, 1939 in New Rockford, ND. His working career was spent in service to his county as a 20 year Navy Veteran in telecommunications. He served in Vietnam. Duane enjoyed deep sea fishing and loved spending time with his family. He was the widower of Geraldine Wakeland.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm Friday at the Lee Memorial Chapel. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements

He leaves behind 5 brothers and sisters, Leatriece Wooten (Jim) of Vina, AL, Alvin Blount of Bruce, Gene Blount (Betty) of Tupelo, Pat McDonald (Bobby) of Bruce, and Lynn Wooldridge (Kenny) of Tupelo; his good friend, Debbie Williams of Chesapeake, VA, his godson, Jeremy Blount of Nashville, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his mother, Hazel Blount, and his grandmother, Ida Wakeland.

Visitation will be 1 pm to service time Friday.
