Obituary

Dorthy Jean Gaskin Callahan, age 93, went to be with the Lord and was reunited with her beloved husband, John on Sunday, August 20, 2023.  She was born on June 6, 1930, to Leon and Minnie Lee Gaskin of Okolona. Jean was the oldest of 5 children.  She married her soulmate John Quincy Callahan, Sr. on July 5, 1947.  After sixty-six years of marriage they were parted by John's death in March 2014.  Jean worked as a seamstress at Futorian Manufacturing for many years.  She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Okolona.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She always put her family first.  Her main joy was cooking for her grandchildren, especially their favorite foods.  She was known by her grandchildren as Jean-Jean or Mama Dean.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Jones (Butch) of Fulton; son, John Callahan, Jr. "Mike" (Margaret) of Pontotoc; her grandchildren, Rachel Pickett of Pope, Brian Jones (Jennifer Spencer) of Amory, Mary-Margaret Callahan of Pontotoc, April Callahan of Guntown; great grandchildren, Grayson (David Craig), Cade, McKenzie, Kaiden, and John Thomas; brother, Howard Gaskin (Carolyn); sister-in-law, Liz Cole; and special niece, Denise Carver; and several nieces and nephews,
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 2 brothers, Billy Ray Gaskin (Elizabeth), Donald Gaskin; sister, Della Sue Mall (Jim); and grandson-in-law, John Mark Pickett.
A private family graveside service will be held at Lee Memorial Park in Verona, MS.  Arrangements are entrusted by Lee Memorial Funeral Home.
