TupeloDelmar Hayes Coleman, Sr., died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth. He was born August 11, 1946, in Lee County to Elsy Mae Coleman and George Warren. He was raised by his grandmother, the late Willie Lee Coleman. He was a graduate of Carver High School in Tupelo. He was retired from Malone & Hyde where he was a dock supervisor for 28 years. He also worked at Wabash Fibre for 2 years. He loved fishing and being outside in his yard. He was a member of Miracle House of Praise Church of the Living God in Shannon. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran. His tour of duty was from June 12, 196 to June 11, 1970. He was wounded and earned The Purple Heart.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Benjamin Dilworth officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lee Memorial Park.
He was married to Luella Owens Coleman for 45 years. He said, "We practically grew up together." The Lord blessed them to raise six children, four daughters, Ms. Debra Harper, Ms. Alice Kindell, Mrs. Valeda (Jamie) Smith, and Mrs. Tinyko (Greg) Morgan, all of Tupelo; two sons, Mr. James Coleman of Shannon and Mr. Delmar Hayes Coleman, Jr., of Tupelo; 12 wonderful grandchildren, 8 boys and 4 girls. They called him "Coleman or Pa-pa and Delmar III just calls me awesome." They are Ellery (Marissa) Coleman, SharRon Ruff, Mario (Brooke) Coleman of Waco, Tex., Brandi Kindell, Bethany Bonner, James Wheeler, Justin (Eriko) Wheeler of Okinawa, Japan, BreAnna Wheeler, Kizzie Cox, Jordan Kindell, Taylor Morgan and Delmar Hayes Cole III, all of Tupelo; 5 special additions to the family, called great-grandchildren; two great-grandsons, Jaden Young and Charlton "CeeJay" Witherspoon Ruff; and three great-granddaughters, Ryli Coleman, Farrah Kindell and Rhyan Cameron. He also leaves to mourn, his mother-in-law, Elder Alice M. Smith of Tupelo; his special family friends, Brian and Earlene Bennett and their family of Rolla, MO; his three sisters, Mrs. Dyan (John) Laird of East St. Louis, Illinois, Ms. Susie A. Owens and Mrs. Mary (E.C.) Foster of Tupelo; seven brothers, Mr. Vonzia Booker, Mr. James (Jody Glass, Mr. John Lee (Jackie) Glass; Mr. Robert Warren and Mr. George Warren
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mr. Sir Michael Glass and Mr. Rickey Warren
