Tupelo – David Koon, Jr., 87, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Magnolia Place in New Albany. He was born February 27, 1938 in Booneville to David and Jodie Koon. He served in the Mississippi National Guard. He started his career with Mid South Packers in 1960 and worked there for decades till eventually retiring from Bryan Foods. He was a longtime member of Wesley Church.
Services will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Wesley Church with Rev. Dr. Jim McClurkan officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 at the church. Lee Memorial Funeral home is entrusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by his two sons, David Lee Koon of San Francisco, CA and Jackie Dale Knox (Christi) of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Presley Knox, Maxwell Knox and Waverly Knox; four brothers, his twin, Arthur Koon, Milton Koon (Diane), Larry Koon, (Brenda) and Randall Koon (Connie); several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Freda Koon; two brothers, Billy Koon and Gilbert Koon; two sisters, Janie Gilley Koon and Brenda Koon.
Pallbearers will be Robert Chaney, Dale Dobbs, Dewaine Card, David Hutson, Jimmy Langley, Sonny Turner, Raymond Webb and Morris McCain.
Memorials may be made to the Wesley Church Building Fund or Wesley Church Food Pantry.
