Verona - John Daniel "Dan" Williams, Sr., 67, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born July 15, 1945 to Howard and Maybelle Williams. He graduated from Shannon High School in 1963 and attended Itawamba Junior College and the University of Mississippi. Being very patriotic, he served his country and state in the Mississippi National Guard. His work life began by helping his dad at the family-owned Williams Service Station. He spent over 24 years as a purchasing agent for Malone and Hyde in Tupelo until the business moved out of town. He retired from Lane Furniture in 2010 after 13 years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Verona, where he sang in the choir and served his church for many years. He was known by his quiet and gentle spirit.

Services will be 4 PM Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Verona with Bro. Larry Dunlap and Bro. Anthony Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley Mann Williams of Verona; two children, Dr. Anita McGraw (Brad) and John Daniel "Dan" Williams, Jr. (Sarah) all of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Noelle and Clint McGraw, and Ellen Kate, Beckett and Campbell Williams all of Tupelo; three brothers, Bobby Williams, Billy Ray Williams (Louise) and Jimmy Williams (Susan) all of Verona; one sister, Betty Armstrong of Verona; one aunt, Faye Johnson of Memphis, TN; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Clint McGraw, Randy Gammill, Ray Williams, Steven Armstrong, Kyle Matkins and Zach Matkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Williams, Sammy Matkins, Reed Williams, Alex Armstrong, Elton Williams and Gene Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Verona or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 Tuesday and 11 - 4 Wednesday all at the church.
