Obituary

Verona - Barbara Sutton, 74, died Monday, December 21, 2009 at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona after an extended illness. She was born September 29, 1935 in Siddon, MS to Aubrey and Ruby Switzer. She was married to James William "Bill" Sutton until his death in 1994. For many years Barbara waitressed at various restaurants, Natchez Trace Inn, Holiday Inn and Ramada Inn, included. Later in life, her love for children lead her in a new direction. She was the nursery attendant at First Christian Church and did child care in homes for many local people. Barbara never met a stranger. She loved her family and served the downtrodden in every way she could. She was an avid Ole Miss Rebel fan and spent countless hours watching them on television and listening to them on the radio. She was a member of the Straight Bayou Baptist Church in Straight Bayou, MS, but for many years she faithfully attended First Christian Church in Tupelo.Services will be 2 PM Wednesday at First Christian Church with Rev. Ray Morton officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In honor of Barbara's love of Ole Miss, the family will dress casually in red and blue.Survivors include three sons, Bill Sutton and Scott (Pam) Sutton both of Red Oaks, TX and Jare` Sutton of Tupelo; one daughter, Cydney Petty of Verona with whom she lived; five grandchildren, Ryan Sutton, Cala Petty, Savannah Sutton, Pierce Lehman and Emilee Sutton; one brother, Aubrey Switzer; three sisters, Linda Hawkins, Jean Fonderon and Maybeline Henderson; numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Virgil Switzer and Bert Switzer and two sisters, Thelma Cox and Christine Horne.Pallbearers will be Porter Casey, David Barnett, Jeff Moore, Jeff Hillard, Doug Exline and Ryan Sutton. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of First Christian Church.Memorials may be made to First Christian Church 1590 McCullough Blvd. Tupelo, MS 38804.Visitation will be 11:30 AM until service time today at the church.
