Obituary

Guntown - Amos A. Raper, 79, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at the North MS Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born September 19, 1932, in Lee County to Chester and Onie Clark Raper. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he served his country for two years in the US Army and for 18 years in the US Air Force where he served as a flight ensign on a C130 aircraft. He was awarded the PACAF Outstanding Maintenance Award and was named the KBC C-47 Crew Chief of the Quarter in September of 1964. During his military career, he traveled all over the world and made numerous friends. After his military career he worked as a dispatcher for Tombigbee Electric Power Association. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and spending time with family. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

Services will be 2 PM Wednesday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro Ben Raper officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn Raper of Guntown; one daughter, Cheryl Young (Keith) of Baldwyn; one step-son, Jon DeFilippo of Guntown; two sisters, Yvonne Edwards (Fred) of Bissell and Inez Oliver of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Roxanne Lindsey (Brent) of Guntown; two great-grandchildren, Demi and Brentlee Lindsey; his longtime military buddies, Bobby Haskell and Chuck Sweeney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, W.C. Raper and Billy Raper; and two sisters, Linnie Pearl Gillentine and Regenia Mott.

The Columbus Air Force Color Guard will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be continue from 1 p.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
